What is CPD&PI?

PSA’s CPD&PI program recognises that patient outcomes are affected by both the professional capability of the pharmacist (CPD component) as well as the quality of the pharmacy service system (PI component).

The program presents opportunities for pharmacists to address both of these aspects, related to their individual professional role.

What is CPD?
Continuing Professional Development is the life-long maintenance, development and broadening of knowledge, skills and attitudes, to ensure continuing competence as a professional pharmacist.

What is PI?
Practice Improvement refers to enhancing the processes or systems through which pharmacists deliver professional services in their pharmacy.

Participation in PSA’s CPD&PI program confirms a pharmacist’s commitment to maintain their professional standards and strive for excellence. It demonstrates to patients and colleagues that they are maintaining and building their capability to achieve optimal health outcomes for patients.

The program encourages learning activities that will address specific individual learning needs. This helps to make the most of the limited time that pharmacists have available to participate in the program.

The program also helps pharmacists to meet State Pharmacy Board re-accreditation requirements.

Ultimately, pharmacists have a fundamental ethical requirement to maintain competence throughout their career. Participation demonstrates their commitment to enhance their skills and the profession.
