Case scenario
Darren is a community pharmacist of 8 years. His employer is currently interviewing candidates for an intern pharmacist, with the view of improving workflow as the pharmacy becomes busier with the professional services they offer. As the employer himself has minimal contact hours at the pharmacy, he would like to assign the role of preceptor to Darren. Although Darren has experience as a preceptor for pharmacy students, he has never been a preceptor to an intern before, so he doesn’t know if he is the best candidate. He decided it would be wise to contact an intern training program (ITP) provider for information on the role to see how it might impact his day-to-day responsibilities.
