Ivan the Terrible, Henry VIII, Friedrich Nietzsche, Gauguin, Keats, Oscar Wilde, Beethoven, Manet and Al Capone all allegedly picked up the disease. Given that the ‘Great Pox’ was a known venereal disorder, it is no surprise Casanova also made the ever-growing list.
